We will remember 2009 as the year that propelled augmented reality from the realms of science fiction movies and military heads-up displays and into the ad industry’s collective consciousness and the cover of Esquire. The year was capped nicely, too, by the announcement of Google Goggles, a new type of search that lets you submit a picture of something — a landmark, a book, or a logo — instead of typing in a usual text query. Where will it all lead? Maybe to a future like this; come back in December of 2019 to compare notes.
