Facebook Helps Friends Stay Friends

In August, we asked 537 people in our panel about their social networking habits, and it turns out that:

80% of our 18-25 year-old panelists admitted they would not remember friend’s birthdays if it weren't for Facebook reminders.

84% of panelists like the fact that they can keep in touch with others without having to talk to them.

76% of 18-25 year-old panelists have used social networking sites as an informal background check, while 81% of adults over 55 on the panel leave the snooping up to private investigators.

57% of our panelists claimed they are very selective about accepting friend requests, but still 55% of them have over have 200 friends.

75% of panelists post pictures to keep these friends updated on their lives.

31% of the panel tweet, only 16% blog.

The number one activity for our 18-25 panelists is reading the news and not shopping, looking for love, or killing time.
