MTV Networks: Why Social TV is Not Just About Digital

I had a chance to sit down with Jacob Shwirtz, Director of Social Viewing at MTV Networks.  There are so many examples of different social strategies they have employed across their portfolio with shows like SpongeBob, Degrassi and the Video Music Awards.  As we sat high above Times Square, Jacob talked about how they are using the social space to create better experiences for their fans.

In this clip, Jacob discusses the huge social success of this year’s  BET Awards as well as their use of Tumblr.  He emphasizes the importance of collaboration amongst disciplines as a key driver to many of their social media  wins.  His advice to advertisers?  Be willing to experiment and have an open mind.  Have a look.
