NBC New Season Presentation

The 4th place network announced their fall season line-up. Although they sustained continuous ratings declines this season, they favored stability over making sweeping changes to their primetime schedule. New programs showing the most promise are scripted series Journeyman and Chuck along with alternative series The Singing Bee.

Thankfully, instead of finding some obscure piece of data to demonstrate NBC was #1 in something, Kevin Reilly took a more honest approach. He simply said, "we just need to be more better." One hit at a time. Building on freshman hit Heroes, alternative success Deal or No Deal and longtime anchors E.R. and Law and Order.

NBC is holding onto low rated but critically acclaimed 30 Rock and Friday Nights Lights. They are hoping they'll build on the small but loyal base they've developed. We applaud NBC for sticking with these shows and giving them a chance to find an audience.

Over the past few years, all of the networks have struggled with comedies. NBC has taken an innovative approach this season. Jerry Seinfeld returns to the NBC family with a series of comedy shorts. The shorts are called "Making Bee Movie Magic," based on his upcoming animated "Bee Movie" from Dreamworks. This allows NBC to use short form content throughout their schedule as program interstitials and pod busters (a bridge between program content to stem audience drops) with the talent of a proven comedic success. This is a great opportunity for NBC and we hope this is the boost that it needs to return them to "Must See TV" status.
